Dear Parents,

There are some important notices which I would like to bring to your attention.

Féilire na Scoile: School Calendar

The return date for the beginning of the next school year will be Thursday 31st August  .The calendar for the school year has been published in the calendar area of our website. School will close on Wednesday 28th June for the school holidays @12.30p.m. The usual arrangements will apply.

Leabharliostaí: Booklists and voluntary contribution

All classes are included in our book rental scheme . The scheme has served us well and hopefully will continue into the future. The school will purchase all the books necessary and parents will pay a book rental fee. We are purchasing three new schemes next year; maths from Junior Infants to 2nd class, Irish from 3rd to 6th class and religion from 1st to 4th class . Next year’s fee for book rental will be €50 per child.

Voluntary Contribution

The voluntary contribution goes to offset some of the expenses involved in the following; KOMEER, Test booklets, arts and crafts, extra photocopying /progress folders/ copies /plastic pockets etc.

It is €35 per child. In the case of families with three or more children the maximum contribution is €70. Please pay in September in an envelope marked “Voluntary Contribution” with your family name clearly marked on the envelope.

Other important notes

Please label all of your child’s belongings clearly (not joined writing). Individually label the smaller items in their pencil case also (pencils, markers, twistable etc.). Don’t forget the school tracksuit/uniform and coats as these do get mixed up and misplaced. This may be time consuming but it will help your child to mind their things and it will also save you having to replace things.

Your child has received a list of requisites for their class for next year with their school report .

Cúrsaí Spóirt:  Sports News

Congratulations to Mr. Slevin and the rounders’ teams for their excellent displays last  week . Both the boys and girls team won the Cumann na mBunscol finals here in Emo on Wednesday last.

Rang a Sé ag Fágáil: 6th Class Leaving

Last Friday saw the departure of our current 6th class. I would like to compliment them on their achievements during the course of this year and others, in many different spheres of school life.                                                                                                         The staff and I would like to wish them the best of luck on their onward journey. With sixth class departing we are also losing some parents. A special thank you to them for their support and involvement in school life over the duration of their child’s education here in Emo.

Blúiríní: Snippets

  • We are collating sets of books, jerseys etc at the moment . Please check at home for any school books, either books on the book rental scheme or supplementary readers . In particular, we are missing some Oxford Reading Tree books that were loaned to children in senior classes .
  • Second class  have raised €216  for their chosen charity this year. All proceeds will go to Irish Cancer Care. Many thanks to those who have donated.
  • Sixth class have raised €530 for their chosen charity this year . All proceeds will go towards helping with a sensory garden for the children in the Kolbe centre in Portlaoise . Many thanks to those who have donated.

Focal Buíochas: A word of thanks
We are very grateful for the help and support of so many parents in our school. This has long been a hallmark of Emo National School. A particular word of thanks to parents who have assisted with transport to matches and other events.  A special word of thanks to the Parents’ Association who do tremendous work in the background and in particular their officers : Gordon Reid , Miriam O’Shea and Catherine Moore .

I would also like to extend a míle buíochas to our teachers and ancillary staff in the school for all their dedication, help and support over the year. Unfortunately , we are losing some of our temporary teachers to permanent jobs in other schools. Mr. Lillis is moving to Mountmellick boys school , Ms. Bennett is moving to Killeigh N.S. and Ms. Daly to The Heath. I extend a huge thanks to each one of them for their contribution both to the staff and pupils of Emo .

Finally, on behalf of everybody in Emo NS , may I take this opportunity to say well done to all our pupils and to wish you all a safe and happy summer.

Signed ,

Cyril Duggan
