Dear Parents,
We are delighted to notice the brightening mornings and the daffodils which have made their appearance on the way into school. There is also an excellent atmosphere of hard work in the school at present and lots of interesting educational opportunities to look forward to this term .
Seachtain na Scoileanna Caitliceacha; Catholic Schools Week
We recently celebrated Catholic schools week. We reflected on the contribution that Catholic schools make to Irish life and we thank Fr. Dooley for celebrating First Friday mass with us .The preparation for confirmation with parents began in January. We have 25 pupils for Confirmation this year.
Féilire na Scoile go dtí an Samhain: School Calendar to Easter
The following are the key dates which will take us up to the Easter holidays.
- Swimming starts for all classes on next Monday 18th February. See note here.
- Mid-term break: School closes on the 21st and 22nd February .
- HSE Eyes and Ears testing for Junior Infants .
- First Confession takes place on March 14th.
- Monday 18th March is a public holiday.
- Confirmation will take place on March 21st @11a.m. in St. Paul’s church in Emo.

Tinreamh ; Attendance
The attendance for the school year up to the end the second week in February was 96%. There are 45 children with full attendance to date this year.
Cúrsaí Spóirt: Sports News
Second class and third class have been playing indoor hurling recently. Student teachers, Mr. Rowney and Mr. Kitchen organised a lunchtime indoor league which finished today. Laois GAA have a subsidised helmet scheme where the school can purchase helmets for the much reduced price of €30. If you wish to order a helmet please do so on or before Wednesday 19th with class teacher. Children can check their helmet size here in the school.
Rollaithe : Enrolment
We enrolled 26 junior infants for 2019/2020 school year. We will meet with parents and children here in the school on Friday 29th March.
Curaclam na Scoile ; School Curriculum
We are continuing with our Irish plan and its implementation in the school at the moment.Our teachers are also working on our Science plan and Digital Strategy.New plans in respect of these two subject areas will be completed next term .
Tionóil na Scoile: School Assembly
Assembly is a brilliant opportunity to get a snapshot of some of the excellent work of our teachers and pupils.Today Ms. LM Maher’s class had an Irish rhyme all about the clothes that they are wearing.Mr. Slevin’s class are learning all about Egypt and presented their projects most eloquently.Ms. Greene’s class had a song in Irish for the months of the year. Ms. Lewis’ class had a brilliant dance to an African song.
Matheltics continues to be as popular as ever.Mrs. Fennelly presented 24 silver certificate award winners and 5 gold certificate award winners with homework passes today. Well done to all the pupils that engage on a weekly basis with this resource.
Blúiríní; Snippets
- Luke Sweeney, Science Cuiditheoir, PDST visited the school in November and will visit the school again in March .
- Eilish Foy SESS ( Special Education Support Service ) visited us recently for school support
- Fourth class visited Emo Court recently.
