Dear parents,

Please see the following notices for your attention.

An Téarma Deireanach: The Final Term

Although it is the last term, it is certainly an important one for all. Teachers are pressing ahead to get course work completed and very important revision takes place during this term. Therefore, it is more important than ever that your child continues to focus properly on their work, both in school and at home.

Féilire na Scoile: School Calendar

As per school calendar there is no school this Friday 30th April. School will resume on Tuesday 4th May.

Buíochas

Our thanks to the Parents Association who recently presented the school with funding for our computer classes which were held before Christmas and also for the cycling safety lessons recently completed by fourth class.

Cód Nua Iompair; New Code of Behaviour for 1st to 6th classes

This Code of Behaviour has been reviewed by the school management team in consultation with all staff members. We have also discussed the new behaviour management system with pupils in the school. I have attached a summary of the new system to this newsletter. We now wish to consult with parents whilst implementing the code of behaviour on a pilot basis during May and June. The new code of behaviour will be implemented for all children from 1st to 6th classes. The behaviour management system will be adapted for children with additional needs in these classes.

It is important to stress that 99% of the time the children in Emo National School are very well behaved both in class and on the yard during break times. Therefore, the main emphasis will be on the reinforcement of positive behaviour in the school. Each class will have a definitive rewards system which is consistent, weekly and fair.

We are also introducing a card system which affords children an opportunity to take responsibility for minor and serious misbehaviours in a positive way. (see yellow card on Aladdin notice) We believe that this card system will be for occasional use that matches the profile of the pupils in this school. When you have read through the behaviour management system with your child please feel free to comment or make some suggestions regarding the new system. You can send your comments or suggestions either through Aladdin or directly to principal@emons.ie.

Measúnú ; Assessment

As you are aware no standardised testing took place last year due to school closures as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic. We will be administering these tests as normal for this school year for all classes from senior infants to 6th class. The results help us to evaluate progress and pinpoint areas for improvement. English tests will take place in the last week in May (25th, 26th and 27th) and Maths tests will take place in the second week of June ( 8th ,9th and 10th ) .

Club Leabhair; Book Club

The oldest in the family will have a book club leaflet going home today. If a parent wishes to purchase books for their child, they may do so using the following link. Closing date for purchase of books is Wednesday, May 12th.

https://schools.scholastic.ie/emo-n/digital-book-club

All books purchased will be delivered to the school for convenience and the school will distribute accordingly. The school also gets credit for books purchased and can subsequently use the credit to purchase books for class libraries.
